Online discharge prescription generation for physicians

While performing clinical rounds with physicians, Jon Nolin, a Pharmacist at Northeast Health (an integrated delivery system with hospitals in Troy and Albany, NY) noticed physicians were spending a significant amount of time writing discharge prescriptions.

Upon further research, it was identified that much of this time was spent transcribing information that was already available within the MEDITECH HCIS (patient demographics, physician information, and drug information). Armed with this information, Jon set out to implement an automated system that would expedite the discharge process while reducing medication errors, improving patient care, and increasing physician satisfaction with hospital computer systems. This system is now LIVE at Northeast Health and the benefits are real.
