Financial Crisis - Who's Accountable? Ken Hoffman, Vice President Interfaces and Integration
We can all see the
application of accountability in a hospital environment. I’ve
worked on many projects with hospitals and it’s not uncommon for
a project to get off track. Sometimes they get so off-track we
start looking for someone to ‘blame’ and hold ‘accountable’ for
being behind schedule. Assessing blame isn’t difficult;
especially with an interface project. Most interface projects
include multiple vendors, hospital staff and from time to time
throw in a consultant to spice it up. I personally say blame
the consultants and vendors, they’re always causing trouble.
The answer to those questions is for each of us to address and take action. I assure you everyone at Iatric Systems takes accountability very seriously. I would like to introduce the other members of my Interface team that I hold accountable.
And if I’m not meeting your needs I am accountable to our President, Joel Berman; JoelB@iatric.com, 978-805-4101.
A hospital interface project isn’t a $500 billion business but the level of accountability and commitment from everyone involved requires the same level of intensity. Should Iatric Systems fall short in any way please hold me and my staff accountable. Don’t wait until the ‘sky is falling’ to contact any one of us directly. We are here to serve you!

Facilities have two areas of focus - identifying and correcting duplicates that were created in the past and preventing duplicates from being created in the future. The standard process for identifying duplicate unit numbers in MEDITECH uses reports which search based on a combination of name, date of birth and Social Security number. The reports can identify potential duplicates which are then researched and entered into MEDITECH for merging. With the Social Security number becoming of less value as a search criteria. Additional search options and combinations can improve the accuracy and specificity of the search, making the process more efficient.
Preventing the creation of new unit numbers is an on-going effort of education of the registration staff and monitoring new unit numbers as they are created to ensure they are not duplicates.
Please join us via webcast as Paula Vaughn, Hallmark Health Systems, walks you through the duplicate medical records process. We’ll provide a demonstration of the MRI MergeMate product at the end of the session. To register simply select a webcast date below and follow the registration instructions.

The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) said it would delay enforcement of what's known as the "red flag" rule to May 1, 2009, from the scheduled compliance date of November 1, 2008. The rule requires that creditors - broadly defined and construed to include healthcare providers that accept deferred payment - adopt written programs to identify and respond to indicators of identity theft.
According to an enforcement policy issued today, FTC staff learned during outreach efforts on the rule that many affected organizations were unaware the rule would apply to them and didn't have time to be in compliance by Nov. 1. Recognizing the "confusion and uncertainty" with the deadline looming, the commission concluded it would be "neither equitable for the covered industries nor beneficial to the public" to stick with the date.
In order to assist our customers with timely compliance, Iatric Systems has partnered with ComplianceCoach®. ComplianceCoach® offers CompliancePal an easy to use web-based software that a hospital or other medical services provider can use to quickly comply with the FACT Act Identity Theft Red Flags Rule.

RAC Audits - Get In The Game Kay Jackson
Financial
Marketing Manager
Do you need help getting in the game for tracking RAC audits? Iatric Systems created IatriTRAC to assist your facility with the RAC audit process. IatriTRAC monitors RAC audits real-time so users are able to extract or display MEDITECH data including payment totals and other elements. You can also track all events surrounding ongoing appeals and follow-up. IatriTRAC is listed on the AHA RAC vendor list. In addition the CMS has announced that records requested for audits can now be submitted via CD’s versus hard copy. This change will save hospitals enormous workload time. Iatric Systems offers an Archiving and Scanning solution for combining scanned images as well as archived MEDITECH data to be gathered and transferred to a CD in less than one minute.
Please join us via webcast as Kay Jackson, Financial Marketing Manager, educates you about the recent RAC announcement and the tool to track all of the events. She’ll provide a demonstration of the IatriTRAC product at the end of the session. To register simply select a webcast date below and follow the registration instructions.

Find that report you just edited - or just ran (MAGIC or C/S)Sometimes the old short-term memory fails, or a user calls for a change to a report and you want to avoid having to sleuth thru menus to find the program name. Using NPR.REP, you can let a report find your report.
Use the EDIT ELEMENTS option to provide a default and lookup for the selection on Edit User. You need to add the ID attribute because the @user field does not call a dictionary lookup. The @run.user field, however, does behave as desired so it does not need to have an ID attribute added. Also change the REQ attributes to N so that you can run the report to select by edit user, or run user, or searching titles, or any combination of criteria.
The selection screen values are actually created with the IG (Ignore) selection operator, as we will use the select values entered by the user in our own "start" macro loop to process the activity and audit trail and check the report title to decide whether to include the report.
Because we will need to process data from two child segments and also check the title, it is easiest to "IG"nore the select values and handle the selection with our own code. Loading the "urn" (internal report name) into a list, and using an LI selection against that list as follows:
In the "start" macro, we loop on the DPM range of reports, select those with a "zcus" and check the title, audit trail, and activity log against the criteria entered for the IG fields. (edit user and edit date range or run user and run date range or string to search for in the report title).
Notice how the list in /URN contains packed (queued) data. We put an asterisk in piece 0 if the edit user is found, an asterisk in |1 if the run user is found, and an asterisk in |2 if the title contains our searched-for text. This allows us to print flags on the output to show which select criteria were met by each report.
Client Server and MAGIC versions of this report have been placed in our Report Library: NPR.REP.zcus.is.eupdate.find.report You can find additional NPR Tips on our website at http://www.iatric.com/information/npr-tips.asp. You'll also find information about our on-site NPR Report Writer Training and NPR Report Writing Services.
